Famous Four-in-a-row

Occasionally, a team emerges which dominates a competition over a period of years. On four occasions, a county has won four All-Ireland titles in succession.

Kerry (football) 1978-81: Pat Spillane, Denis Moran, Jack O'Shea and Mike Sheehy were on Kerry teams which defeated Dublin twice, Roscommon and Offaly. In 1982, they came within two minutes of five-in-a-row.

Cork (hurling) 1941-44: Cork totally dominated hurling in the early 1940s, defeating Dublin by 20 points, Dublin by 10 points, Antrim by 27 points, and Dublin by 14 points.

Kerry (football) 1929-32: Wins over Kildare, Monaghan, Kildare (again) and Mayo gave Kerry their first four-in-a-row in a team inspired by players such as Dan O'Keefe, Joe Barrett, John Joe Sheehy and Con Brosnan.

Wexford (football) 1915-18: Wexford were beaten in the 1913 and 1914 All-Ireland finals. Jim Byrne was their principal goal-scorer and the brothers Sean and Gus O'Kennedy were the mainstays of a team which defeated Kerry, Clare, Mayo and Tipperary.
